Chinese seals first appeared in the period of the Shang and Zhou dynasties (2600-771 BC). Dipped into red or black ink and then pressed upon a scroll or parchment, seals were first used as an official validation of authority by high ranking officials. Today, Chinese seals are often called Chops and are still used as a form of legal signature. It is common to purchase a black stone chop – and have your family name carved on the bottom. Our stone chops are blank on the bottom; they can be used as a decorative item, or cab be carved and used as a signature seal. • 4" square silk box • includes wood chop and ink Imported from China.
