Silk was first developed in China by Empress Xi Ling-Shi. Since its discovery, silk has been considered a luxury fabric in many Asian cultures. Eventually, silk came to be in great demand across the globe and became a staple of international trade. Its status as a highly prized fabric around the world resulted in the major trade route between Asia and Europe being referred to as the “Silk Road.” |
