Buddha was never comfortable with the idea of people worshipping his image. Consequently, in early Tibetan Buddhism, statues of Buddha were not used. Instead, Tibetan art represented Buddha in form of symbols that stand for his teachings. Represented on this necklace are two of the Eight Auspicious Buddhist Symbols, namely the Conch Shell and the Double Fish. The Double Fish symbolize the promise that follower of Buddha’s teachings will not drown in the ocean of suffering; disciples are free to swim wherever they please without fear. The Conch Shell is used to represent the announcement of Buddha's enlightenment and the awakening of his disciples from the slumber of ignorance. The other 6 auspicious symbols are: the Dharma Wheel, the Precious Parasol, the Vast of Treasure, the Banner of Victory, the Knot of Eternity, and the Lotus Flower. • made from sterling silver • pendant: 1.15" diameter; necklace: 18" length Imported from Tibet.
