The Chinese Astrological cycle begins with the Rat.
The Rat is full of charm, loves company and is somewhat of a deviant. Although amiable and generous, the Rat is also very egotistical, calculating, and manipulative.
Its outward behavior is generally calm. However, the Rat is capable of concealing aggression. When frustrated or crossed, the Rat becomes manipulative, aggressive, backbiting, vengeful, and obstinate.
The Rat is independent and careful, keenly aware of the need to protect its internal universe and accumulate wealth. It likes money and must succeed at all costs. However, the Rat can be selfish and readily abuse others, who must serve its plans. It is discreet in matters that the Rat is concerned with and able to turn almost everything to its own advantage. The Rat is a skilled organizer and can adapt itself to all situations.
The Rat usually view its environment as a domain to be investigated, mapped out, and controlled. It is the leader, the innovator, and instigator, who pokes his nose everywhere. The more you seek to hide something, the more curious and suspicious the Rat will be. It will not rest until the mystery is solved or the secret is revealed.
In its emotional life, the Rat is sentimental and generous to those it likes, particularly its family. Once its confidence has been gained, the Rat can become an intimate friend.
