Chinese Charms

These Chinese charms are similar to the currency from the Ch’ing Dynasty (1644 to 1911 AD), and also reflect the ten emperors who sat on the throne during that period. But these charms were only used inside the palace during holidays -- such as Chinese New Years or royal birthdays. Cast as commemorative palace-issued coins, they were larger than ordinary money. Conforming to the standard design of that period, the round shape symbolizes the dome of heaven while the square center represents the four points of the Earth. The charm, as a whole, symbolizes the harmony of heaven and earth.
