Hanging lanterns that would last for a long time would greatly depend upon their paper or material. Our lanterns are available in three different kinds of high-quality materials, namely: rice paper, nylon, and cardstock paper, which are specifically used on star paper lanterns.

Rice papers are the classic material that is used in Chinese and Japanese lanterns. Named as such, they are derived from rice-size starches that are traditionally used in paper-making in Japan. As a material for these Cool-Colored Paper Lanterns, they are generally light, thus it would mean safe to use them if you exercise proper safety precautionary measures when installing them with electrical fixtures, especially if you intend to light them over a continuous duration for a long time. As a décor, generally, they appear simple and timeless, although eyelet or lacey patterns, like what we have with our Lime Fizz Eyelet Rice Paper Lantern and Turquoise Eyelet Rice Paper Lantern, can also be made on them to create a more exciting variation. They exude a soft and unobtrusive lighting, and with proper care, they can be preserved for a very long time because they are moth-proof, rot-proof, and becomes less absorbent with the passage of time (which gives us a clue that you can paint or add designs on them to match your next party theme). Essentially, they are ideal to on use indoors, under a shade, or outdoors given a very fine weather.

Hanging lanterns made from nylon are the most ideal for long-term, outdoor lighting. Nylon lanterns are basically durable, sturdy, water-resistant, and therefore long-lasting even with minimal care. Our nylon lanterns have a paper lantern look but with additional shimmer from nylon that adds a classy look over rice paper lanterns. We also have the cardstock papers which are used to create the star-patterned paper lanterns. Cardstock papers are basically thick and durable. As a paper lantern material, they can similarly be used indoors and outdoors in almost the same extent as rice paper lanterns. They are uniquely created with star-shaped cutouts punched on each of them so that they cast off cute star-like shadows when they lit.

Another notable characteristic to watch out for in these Cool-Colored Paper Lanterns are their ribbings. Ribbing refers to the framework or overlay of the support structure of the bamboo or wire that supports the lantern. Ribbings, though, do not at all form a part in the Chinese and Japanese symbolisms, traditions, and beliefs for lanterns but they offer these paper lanterns their unique designs.
