Asian Candles


Candle is derived from the Latin candere which means to shine. The Chinese made candles from whale fat during the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC). Qin Shi Huang was the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty. His burial grounds which were discovered in the 1990s had candles made from whale fat. The book of Jin complied in 648, on the Jin Dynasty made a solid reference to the beeswax candle in regard to its usage by the statesman Zhou Yi. Usually Chinese candles were molded in paper tubes by using rolled rice paper for the wick. The wax came from an indigenous insect that was combines with seeds. Japanese candles were made of wax extracted from tree nuts.
